William (Bill) Winter; Founder & CEO of Winter Scale Passes Away At Age 90
Loving father and grandfather; businessman who ‘created a strong legacy’ for his family, former longtime West Caldwell resident, 90 William T. Winter, age 90, of Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains, formerly a longtime resident of West Caldwell, died Saturday, May 21, 2022.
William worked for many years for the Toledo Scale Company. In 1967, he was given the opportunity to represent the Northeast territory, and in turn, moved his family to West Caldwell, NJ. In 1986, William started his first business representing the Toledo Scale line to the tri-state area: WT Winter Associates. He later founded Integrated Scale Systems Inc., Lizard Label Inc. and Valdata Systems USA Inc., where he served as CEO. Three of his sons (Jonathan, Thomas and Joseph) joined William in his businesses, and he successfully created a strong legacy to support his family.
William is lovingly survived by his sons, William Jr. and his wife Phyllis, Jonathan and his wife Elin, Thomas, and Joseph; ten grandchildren: Christine, Lindsay, Courtney, Bowden, Bevin, Eric, Casey, Jack, Jessica, and Carrie; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Laura, in 2019. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Jack Winter (WWII Veteran) and Nan Spencer. VIsiting hours will be held 12-2 and 6-8 pm Friday at the Chapel at Cedar Crest Village, Pompton Plains. A graveside service will be held 11 am Saturday at the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
